Children Health Insurance
According to the article “Children-Only Health Insurance Going Away” by Dayle Cedars on TheDenverChannel.com, thousands of children in Colorado will soon have less options for their own individual health insurance policies, and health care reform may to be to blame.
7NEWS has discovered that several large health insurance companies are no longer offering child-only health care policies. These types of policies were beneficial to families because often times it was cheaper to buy a plan specific for a dependent rather than adding them onto an employer-sponsored health insurance program. Getting health insurance quotes for this type of policy proved to save money for many families.
With that said, child-only policies are generally for parents who make too much money to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to comfortably afford regular health insurance according to Dr. Larry Wolk, with Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics. Most clinics will see children whether or not they have health insurance. Health care reform plans on extending this kind of mentality, but hopes that a mandate will encourage more families to carry health insurance for everyone.
