Business insurance coverage

One of the first actions most new business owners would take when setting up their new venture would be to contact their insurance agent in order to discuss and purchase sufficient coverage to insure their building and equipment, as well as ample general liability protection. This standard coverage protects against loss from theft or vandalism and any accidents that happen on the property. However, if the businessperson is a professional, the insurance agent should also strongly recommend Professional Liability Insurance.

Lawyers, doctors, accountants, financial advisors, and brokers usually purchase this type of insurance, because in their daily practice, they give out advice. They also provide advice and services that result in financial losses suffered by their clients. Since anyone can make a mistake, business professionals need to protect themselves from legal action that can arise because of this facet of the industry.

Other businesses would opt to buy this Professional Liability Insurance, because an error can occur in almost any type of profession. Transportation services, especially those that are bonded, are at risk for loss of the cargo, which in turn would, create a financial loss to the company that shipped with them. If a contractor in the construction industry, such as a plumber or electrician provides inadequate or non-existent service, the general contractor will experience a loss because he will have to hire another provider.

He would also be at risk to be sued by the person or company that contracted his services. The main benefit of this type of business insurance coverage is to protect the service provider from legal action which could, if he is found to be guilty, devastate him financially. It also would pay legal and defense costs if the accusations are found to be unwarranted. The ordinary liability coverage, such as included in theft, vandalism and personal accident protection, does not include these risks, and must be contracted separately.
