Mortgage complaints leap 37% in Q2

January 17th, 2012 No comments

Mortgages were the fourth most complained about financial product, the FOS revealed, after PPI, credit cards and current accounts.

Mortgages garnered 2,796 complaints in the second quarter of the financial year, compared to 2,044 in Q1.

However, despite the rise, the FOS only ruled in favour or the borrower in 33% of mortgage complaints, down from 36% of cases in the three months to June.

In addition, mortgage endowment complaints grew from 603 in Q1 to 895 in Q2, with 28% of complaints upheld in the three months to September compared to 26% the previous quarter.

Overall, the FOS saw complaints fall 38% in Q2, with PPI complaints slumping almost 66% from 56,025 in the first quarter to 19,256 in Q2.

Excluding PPI, complaints for all other financial products rose 24%.

The PPI uphold rate increased to 92% during this period, up from 55% in Q1, as banks have agreed with the FOS’ findings on complaints that have previously been on hold.

A FOS spokesperson said the overall increase was not linked to any particular product, but was probably due to consumer concern over the volatile economic situation.

“Consumers are seeing things they are not happy with, like underperformance or an inability to switch out of investments as quickly as they would like.

“With the current economic situation people are looking at their finances a lot closer,” the spokesperson said.

How did I save more with the same salary

January 11th, 2012 No comments

We all go through this inertia of saving at a salary which barely manages our living expenses. Nowadays, the situation is going through a tough grind for many who have no or marginal salary hikes in the last couple of years. Plus the inflation seems to be in no mood to sober up. Last year, I did not add a single savings or investment product to my portfolio and moreover I discontinued paying premiums for one of my insurance policies. Mounting expenses at the same income levels just leave us with little choices.

So what does one do when the regular monthly salary doesn’t leave any scope for savings? Well see if my approach can be of any use to you. <

Business insurance coverage

One of the first actions most new business owners would take when setting up their new venture would be to contact their insurance agent in order to discuss and purchase sufficient coverage to insure their building and equipment, as well as ample general liability protection. This standard coverage protects against loss from theft or vandalism and any accidents that happen on the property. However, if the businessperson is a professional, the insurance agent should also strongly recommend Professional Liability Insurance.

Lawyers, doctors, accountants, financial advisors, and brokers usually purchase this type of insurance, because in their daily practice, they give out advice. Full Post…

How I Find Peace of Mind when Traveling – Tips from a Pro

December 30th, 2011 No comments

We travel a lot as a little family of four – a whole lot. We schlep somewhere around the country at least once a month, mini carry-ons and comfort blankets for the kids in tow. At least once a year we make a major pilgrimage to someplace really outside our comfort zone, like this past summer when we traveled by train across Eastern Europe for a month. It took us a handful of years to really get the process of packing the kids just right, and its only now that theyre both a tiny bit older I dont have to remember to pack seven kinds of snacks for an airplane ride. ABI on London riots

December 30th, 2011 No comments

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has expressed its sympathy for residents and business owners who have suffered damage to their properties in the London riots.

The Associations director of general insurance and health, Nick Starling, says: This is a time of enormous stress for them and their insurers will be on hand to answer any questions that they may have.

Mr Starling also advises the following:

Home insurance should cover people for fire, looting or damage caused.

Many policies will also cover people for accommodation costs if they can’t stay in their home.

Most commercial insurance policies will cover businesses for damage to their premises, including the interruption to their business as a result. <
