It’s not really a surprise that researchers found that kids are more likely to get enrolled in health insurance programs if the parents are provided with the enrollment materials and helped with the process.
The Colorado Trust put together an extensive report earlier this year about how community-based organizations can help to increase the number of children who are enrolled in public health insurance programs. They considered the impact that CBOs can have on enrollment, looking at organizations from schools and libraries to fire departments and county fairs.
Only six states have a higher rate of uninsured Children than Colorado, so this issue of of particular concern here. U

The California Supreme Court has ruled that plaintiffs may not seek treble damages under the state’s Unfair Competition Law, and instead can only seek remedies to injunction and restitution.
According to court documents in Clark v. Superior Court (National Western Life Insurance Co.), a group of senior citizens sued National Western Marine Life Insurance Co.

California’s Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau is considering requesting a 30 percent increase in pure premium rates for 2011 policies.
The news that California’s Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB) might ask for the increase came out of a meeting of the bureau’s actuarial committee. That committee makes a recommendation to the WCIRB’s governing committee, and then the governing committee makes the request to the states Department of Insurance.

Recent news continues to reveal some signs the economy is on the path to recovery — evidenced by greater than expected gains in U.S. private sector employment and gains the service sector. Private sector jobs increased in July for the sixth straight month:
MarketWatch:
U.S. private-sector employment rose 42,000 in July for the sixth consecutive monthly gain…according to the employment report from payrolls processing firm ADP released Wednesday.
…Economists polled by MarketWatch had been expecting the ADP report to show a 23,000 increase in July.
…ADP revised upward its estimate for June nonfarm private employment to a 19,000-job gain, from a prior estimate of a 13,000 gain.
The ADP private-payrolls report has been weaker than official government data based on surveys from business establishments and households.
