Alliant Insurance Services, the nation’s largest specialty insurance brokerage firm, has announced that veteran broker Bill Nellen has joined the company as Executive Vice President to direct its national environmental practice. He will be based in Alliant’s office in Alpharetta, GA.

Liberty Northwest, a Liberty Mutual Agency Markets regional company, has announced a total retrospective rating adjustment of more than $1 million for Oregon members of the Liberty Premier Contractors Group (LPCG) workers’ compensation insurance program.

The rating adjustment reflects the participants’ safety performance during the policy year ending Oct. 1, 2009, and amounts to a total net group savings of 15 percent, which includes premium adjustments, tax savings and non-disabling medical reimbursements.

According to the article “Telemarketers Gull the Vulnerable, FTC Says” by Adam Klasfeld on Courthouse News Service, 4 telemarketing companies have defrauded consumers by selling fake medical discount plans as health insurance and charging up to $259 per month for it.
The FTC has sued the four companies and the 3 people who own them. The companies include the Consumer Health Benefits Association, National Benefits Consultants, National Benefits Solutions, and National Association for Americans. Many of the victims these companies targeted were uninsured because of pre-existing conditions or they lost their job and were drawn to the idea of lower health insurance quotes.

The Arizona Supreme Court is weighing in on the state’s uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage selection form — a decision that could dramatically increase insurance agency’s errors and omissions premiums, according to the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Arizona.
According to IIABAZ’s amicus brief in Ballesteros v. Los Angeles Farmers Insurance, which has called Southern California home since its founding in 1928, has announced it will move employees from its Simi Valley office to a more modern facility in nearby Woodland Hills in California’s San Fernando Valley.
The company announced that it will move approximately 1,200 people, or 20 percent of its Greater Los Angeles workforce, from building space it leases at 3041 Cochran Street in Simi Valley to another leased facility at 6303 Owensmouth in Woodland Hills. The Woodland Hills facility is already home to some Farmers employees and the building currently is branded 21st Century Insurance Co., but the name on the building will be changed to Farmers Insurance.
